The Sugar Blues

Sugar is the number one culprit for many illnesses including, cancer, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, obesity, cardiovascular diseases and digestive disorders.

Without getting too technical, let's just look at what happens when we consume refined carbohydrate products like soda, cookies, chips, pasta, or other processed flour goods. In our bodies, these foods break down too quickly into glucose. While the bloodstream is being flooded with sugar/glucose, only a small amount of glucose is actually required for brain fuel and energy. The rest is ushered into the cells and stored as fat by the insulin hormone secreted from the pancreas. Caffeine also causes increased insulin and this hormone elevation is what starts the cascade of health issues related to glucose intolerance.

On the other side of sugar blues we have of feeding of pathogens like candida yeast, bacteria, viruses, and parasites, all of which thrive on an anaerobic environment of low oxygen. The result is a loss of oxygen and circulation to the brain and extremities. That is why diabetes leads to peripheral neuropathy, loss of limbs, and blindness.

So, how do we satisfy that craving for sweets and refined carbohydrates? Keep the blood sugar steady and stable by eating small frequent meals of complex carbohydrates like whole grains, fruits and vegetables, lean protein and amino acid powder shakes. Don't starve yourself to one or two meals a day because this will only put your body in crisis and create cravings and fat storage of what you do eat.

When you shop for food, stick to the peripheral of the supermarket where you will find whole foods. The center isles, for the most part, contain the processed and refined packaged stuff that you want to avoid to be healthy.
